Biography of Trudy Turner

Following a number of years in sales and marketing, Trudy decided it was time to give back to the community and has spent the past sixteen years in non-profit management. Working first with the MS Society and then serving as Provincial Director for the Terry Fox Foundation, her interest evolved to community economic development. This path led her to the Old St. Vital Business Improvement Zone and finally to the West End BIZ, representing the 1100 for-profit and non-profit businesses within its geographic confines. Trudy has served as Executive Director for more than five years. Trudy is also the Past President of the Winnipeg BIZ Association, an organization of representing the sixteen BIZ groups in Winnipeg.

Dedicated to the community, Trudy encourages partnerships and economic development on a daily basis. Her experience includes numerous neighborhood boards and committees including President of the Windsor School Parent council, member of the South Family Y Expansion Team, Safety in South St. Vital Committee and Bishop Grandin Greenway Incorporated.

In addition, Trudy has conducted seminars on sponsorship, fundraising, and mural collaboration and writes regularly for Mural Routes, a national organization promoting murals as public art.

Trudy was born and raised in Winnipeg, residing in the Riel area for most of her life. She graduated from Glenlawn Collegiate, studied further at the University of Manitoba and continues to take courses and seminars as a lifelong learner. She has two adult children - son John is 24, and daughter Katie is 21.
